The California Missions by Ms. Murphy's Class

Take a trip with the 3rd Grade at Black Pine Circle along the El Camino Real from San Diego along the coast to Sonoma, California. You will find California's 21 missions, all distinct and beautiful in their own way. Each student in our class researched an individual mission, constructed a model, and wrote a report including details of the mission's history, architecture, and interesting features.

Our models are constructed from a variety of materials, including foam board, clay, balsa wood, cardboard, concrete, and papier maché. One student made each individual adobe brick by hand, and many discovered that pasta makes an excellent tile roof!

We hope you enjoy your imaginary journey back in time to 1769, when Father Junipero Serra began the California mission story....Click on a mission to see the model and read some interesting facts we chose from our reports!
