Mission Carmel was founded by Father Serra on June 3, 1770. Mission Carmel was the second Mission. It has nine bells in one tower and 8 in the other. Interesting fact: Mission Carmel was the headquarters of the Mission chain from 1770 to 1803 until Father Serra died. Father Serra is buried in the church in Mission Carmel.
