The Taj Mahal was ordered to be built by Shah Jahan who was king of India at the time. He built the Taj Mahal for his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz Mahal was Shah Jahan's favorite wife of all three of his wives. Mumtaz Mahal died from exhaustion after having her fourteenth child. She was on a battlefield with her husband, Shah Jahan, when she died.
Facts About the Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal has four prayer towers. Each prayer tower is 133 feet tall. In the center of the Taj Mahal there is a big dome that is 138 feet tall. The Taj Mahal took about 22 years to build. People are not sure who was the architect or where he came from, but historians are almost positive that the architect came from Europe. The Taj Mahal means Crown Palace. The Taj Mahal is in Agra, which is in India.
