English at Black Pine Circle
by Adam, 6th Grade
English at BPC is a rich and enlightening experience. Our wonderful and informative teachers, Mr. Ogburn, Ms. Chun and Ms. Palmer help students to the best of their abilities, which of course is some of the finest teaching around. All this plus intelligent and thought provoking assignments make English an excellent class.
As to the enthralling subject of assignments, we get a writing project about once every two weeks (sometimes more, sometimes less.) Regular assignments include crosswords, grammar, and reading. For sixth grade, English class meets four times a week for a double period. Seventh and eighth grades meet four times a week also but three of their classes are regular length.
Book Talks
Book talks are an important part of the Black Pine Circle English curriculum. Over the summer our teachers ask us to read a book of some kind; during the first several months of the school year we must give a talk on the subject of this book which should be given according to an assigned date. The content of these book talks and guidlines may vary and are set, of course, by our teachers.
Poetry Projects
Poetry projects are assigned much later in the year than Book Talks. They are done on the poet of the student's choice. The final includes an introduction, crtiques of poems, and a biography of the poet.
