The Baptistry in Florence, Italy

By Sophie

The baptistery was built in Florence, Italy. Probably the most well known part about the building is the gilded bronze doors. There was a contest held to see who could create the best doors. Andrea Ghiberti won. He spent the next half of his life building the doors. The building was originally built to hold baptisms. Now the font in which people were baptized in still stands. The building is made out of stone and green and white marble. Inside of the dome of the building many mosaic paintings were done. The Baptistery is a separated part of it's neighboring church The Duomo.
I made my model out of foam board, for the walls, tile grout, to hold every thing together, acrilic paint, to paint with, gel median, for parts of the base, glue, to glue things, wood for the cross on the top, clay, for the colums, and bronze foil for making the doors. Except for the fact that I still have cuts from the exacto knife the building of the project was pretty fun. I really liked making the bronze doors and painting the foam board.
