The battle of Aegospotami was a battle between Athens and Sparta. It was after Athens took a terrible blow from Syracuse and they had just spent a lot of money from the treasury on building a new, strong navy. The Spartan fleet sailed over and captured a secure Athenian harbour, so the Athenians had to go over to the other side of the river they were at and pull their boats up on the beach. The Athenians went every day to the harbour and tried to flush the Spartans out, but they stayed there where the Athenians could not attack. After four days of this, the Athenians thought they had the Spartans scared, but in the middle of the fifth night the Spartans came out of their hiding place and sailed for the Athenian fleet. They attacked the Athenians before they had the chance to get their ships off the beach and into battle order. Nine Athenian galleys escaped. For the rest, it was not a battle but a massacre.

I made this model using paint and train model dirt for the ground and lichen for the bushes. For the river I used plaster of Paris and paint with blue glitter mixed in. For the boats I used cardboard and small pieces of canvas; and canvas for the Athenian camp. I used a piece of wood with a cardboard roof for the house.
