My Ancient Greek Timeline is basically made up of important dates and wars between the Greek city-states and other intruding empires and countries. My timeline consists of the Peloponesian War, the Persian War and the siege of Troy. The Persian War was fought between the Persian Empire, which was the largest empire ever in existance, and the many scattered Greek city-states that included Athens, Sparta and their allies. Oddly enough, the Greek city-states prevailed over Persia thus making sure that the Persian Empire would never conquer Europe. The Peloponesian War was fought between the two great powers of the Greek city-states, Sparta and Athens. Sparta won the war against Athens after many years because an Athenian politician/leader, after being kicked out of Athens, helped Sparta by telling them where Athens would attack. The siege of Troy is a famous war because of the Trojan Horse, which was written about in the mythical book The Odyssey, writen by Homer. The Mycaenean cities fought against the city of Troy in the war. This war took place almost 3,200 years ago. The Mycaenean armies set up a seige around Troy. Ten years had past and the city of Troy hadn't surrendered to the Mycaeneans. The Mycaeneans, knowing that they had to change their strategy to win the war sent a gift to Troy, which was a large wooden horse filled with Mycaenean soldiers. When the people of Troy brought the horse into their city at night, the Mycaeneans got out of the horse and opened the gates of the city for their army.
