Black Pine Circle School Psychologist
Dr. Joanna Self consults to Black Pine Circle School part time, addressing concerns about individual students and groups of students, and periodically participating on panel discussions and providing in-service trainings for staff.
With respect to individual students, Joanna collaborates with Black Pine Circle School staff and parents to facilitate a child’s learning, social-emotional, and behavioral adjustment at school. Specifically, Joanna responds to teacher and parent concerns about individual children, helping those involved increase their understanding of the child’s needs, and making recommendations to staff and parents to support the child’s learning, development, and adjustment.
If a child requires support beyond what can be provided at Black Pine Circle School, Joanna works with parents to locate appropriate community resources to support their child. Joanna also works with staff and parents to promote positive social interaction among the students. In addition, Joanna periodically participates on panel discussions on topics of interest to the Black Pine Circle School community, such as encouraging positive peer relationships, or helping twenty-first century children and their parents navigate high tech media. Joanna also provides in-service trainings to the staff on issues such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or early adolescent development.
