Green School
In 2006, Black Pine Circle School was thrilled to be certified as a California Green School through the Alliance to Save Energy’s Green School’s Program. This award was a reminder that Black Pine Circle School’s dedication to environmental issues has long been a strength of our program. We are proud to say that Black Pine Circle School has cut energy expenditure within our school by more than 20% over the last few years. We’re also pleased that our Student Garden has won awards from the National Gardening Association.

We strongly believe in partnership to achieve our goals, and partner closely with Save The Bay, Nature Bridge, The Marin Headlands Institute, The Exploratorium, and the California Academy of Sciences. In past years, we’ve also enjoyed partnerships with the Jane Goodall Institute, and the Berkeley Youth Alternatives (BYA) Garden. Reuse, composting, recycling, native uses of botanicals, and living in concert with other beings on the Earth are essential components of our curricula, as evidenced through our science fair, gardening courses, Andy Goldsworthy art units and commitment to Outdoor Education for grades 4th-8th.
