Special Community Events
Each year, Black Pine Circle School hosts a variety of interesting and educationally relevant events open to both our school community and the community at large.
Black Pine Circle School boasts a number of published authors within its community and we have held a series of book reading events at the school: with Annie Barrows, Ivy & Bean series and Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Sybil Lockhart, Mother in the Middle, Jamie Woolf, Mom In Chief, Zoe Fitzgerald Carter, Imperfect Endings, and Faye Wu and Kieran Dutcher, Chinese Nursery Rhymes.
Vicki Abeles’ film, Race To Nowhere was screened at Black Pine Circle School, a powerful documentary exposing the pressures faced by American school children and their teachers in our achievement-obsessed public and private education system and culture. This film is igniting a national conversation around this subject.
Parent film-maker, Myra Paci, showed her documentary, This Life So Far, interwoven interviews chronicling the challenges and life experiences of some members of the school’s faculty and parent body.
A Parent Education Workshop, Navigating Your Child’s Social World led by Sheri Glucoft Wong, LCSW, focused on the role parents play in their children’s social development, with strategies for supporting kids in their peer relationships as well as their school’s social environment.
