Making Your Gift

Pledges.

Black Pine Circle School encourages pledges toward its Annual Gift Fund. Gifts can be made over the course of the year in multiple payments. Pledges to the Annual Gift Fund must be paid by June 30th of each year, which is the end of Black Pine Circle School’s fiscal year. If you would like to learn more  about pledge and installment payments, please contact our Director of  Development John Ormsby at 510-529-2715 or by email

Gifts of Cash.

Traditionally, the majority of gifts made to Black Pine Circle School come in the form of cash (via check or credit card). A gift of cash entitles a donor to the most generous federal income tax deduction available for charitable contributions.

Marketable Securities.

A gift of appreciated securities is frequently the most economic way to give. You will be eligible to take a federal income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock* on the date of the gift (for up to thirty percent of your adjusted gross income) and will not have to recognize the appreciation of the stock as capital gain. You may obtain details on the transfer of securities by calling Black Pine Circle School’s Development office at 510-529-2715.

Gifts of Real Estate.

Appreciated marketable real estate is another asset with which you may make a significant gift to Black Pine Circle School. A gift of real estate will entitle you to a federal income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the property.* You will need to substantiate this value with an appraisal. You may take this deduction for up to thirty percent of your adjusted gross income and any excess over that amount you may carry over for up to five additional years. With gifts of securities, we recommend that you consult your financial adviser.

*If you are an alternative minimum taxpayer, you may have to exclude the appreciated portion of the value of your gift of appreciated property from your deduction thereby limiting your income tax deduction to your basis in the asset.

Gifts in Honor.

may be made in honor or memory of an individual on the occasion of a birthday, anniversary, holiday, wedding, or significant life event. The individual so honored receives notification of the gift identifying the donor, but without specifying the amount of the gift.

Matching Gifts.

Please remember that many companies and organizations provide the employee benefit of a Matching Gifts Program. Inquire at your or your spouse’s human resources department; many companies provide this benefit may be doubled or even tripled through matching gifts programs, whereby many companies match contributions made by employees.

Gifts-in-Kind.

Non-cash “gifts-in-kind” are gratefully received in support of school needs. Many parents and friends of the School have access to goods and services that may be of use to the school. Donations of computers, office equipment, or other valuable items are very much appreciated, and will be acknowledged formally. Contact the Development Director (510-529-2715) for information about what the school is in a position to accept.

Bequests.

Black Pine Circle School greatly encourages and appreciates future gifts made through one’s estate plan. Providing a provision in your will for Black Pine Circle School will benefit future generations of students.
